Live hemp beer

Idea of Our Beer

The experience of the brewer, quality local ingredients, and traditional craft skills. Quality takes precedence over quantity and passing trends.

Although the combination of hops and hemp in beer may seem unconventional, in fact, these two cultural crops belong together. Hemp (Cannabis sativa) and hops (Humulus lupulus) are botanically related plants and belong to the Cannabaceae family.

In the fine-tuned recipes, we use hemp in its purely natural form. We don't work with purified cannabis extracts, isolates, or botanical terpenes. Rather than current trends and high CBD content, we focus on choosing high-quality, properly stored, and fragrant Czech hemp, which is used in the right amount and at the right time. We can thus impart the pleasant aroma and taste of selected varieties of hemp to the beer using traditional craft methods.

The full and rich taste of KONOPEX hemp beer is completed not only by the raw materials but also by the brewing process and its freshness. Our beer is unfiltered and unpasteurized. This means that although it has a shorter shelf life, it will remain "live" and retain all the beneficial yeasts, probiotics, and aromatic elements. That offers a full-fledged taste experience and other benefits associated with the content of beneficial living cultures that have not been degraded by heat (pasteurization) or filtration.

Cheers! Na zdraví!

Idea of Our Beer
History of Our Hemp Beer

Beer Festivals, Music Events and Milestones

Hemp beer was originally created as a means of promoting the KONOPEX trade show, but it caught on so much that we started touring various events and festivals with it. Finally, we also used this idea as a communication channel to spread awareness and an opportunity to talk to people about the beneficial properties of this universal plant. The idea worked – how else and better to get the public's attention in the Czech Republic than with beer? 😀

2016 – Looking for a Brewer

The plan was clear – to find a craft brewer and an experienced matador who would be willing to learn how to work with cannabis. Both in the fermentation tank and with the authorities.

It started with the search for a brewmaster.

2017 – First Batch of Hemp Beer

Liters of samples drunk and a long search paid off. We started to cooperate with the Skrečoňský žábák brewery. Our cooperation works and flourishes until now.

The first batch turned out well, and the recipe began to be refined.

2018 – Festival Ride

This year we started it in full swing, and from spring to autumn we managed to cover around 30 events. So almost every weekend in different corners of the Czech Republic – beer and music festivals, city celebrations, food events, private events, club parties, etc. It was a challenging year, full of travel, tapping, and debating about cannabis. There were even some festival awards for our hemp beer!

We traveled to about 30 festivals and events during the season. We enjoyed the beer, and so did you

2019 – The Ride Continues

From spring to autumn, again on the road around our beautiful homeland. There were also several tap stops in Poland, Slovakia, or Austria.

Another season full of festivals and celebrations

2020 – A Year of Dry Beer Tap

A successful streak was interrupted by the global situation and government measures. Two years of dry taps, but cannabis beer survived.

The global confusion interrupted this wonderful journey, and the festival life came to a halt for two years.
TRADITIONAL PROCEDURES

Production of Hemp Beer

Konopex List
Variety and Harvest

The pleasant alchemy starts with the choice of variety. Yield, cannabinoid content, and other properties of hemp are taken into account. The aroma and flavor of cannabis beer are influenced by the terpene profile of the variety, harvest, and degree of ripeness, as well as the harvesting method (hand harvesting). The subsequent gentle and gradual drying process is also important.

Choosing the right variety is important
Drying and Curing

By drying slowly in ideal conditions and at naturally lower temperatures, the material keeps its healthy color and fragrance. The dry material is then stored, and further curing takes place. This allows the material to undergo further processes, which then positively influence the properties of the dry material and thus the pleasant taste experience.

The key is properly dried and cured cannabis.
Brewing Process

When high-quality ingredients and the experience of the brewer are combined with a fine-tuned recipe... Then all we have to do is wait for the right processes to take place during the lager, which will create the Czech national drink with a fiery spark and the right full flavor.
